Ben Affleck takes to the dance floor wearing sneakers in a lively sequence from 'The Accountant 2.'
Affleck's character, Christian Wolff, an autistic accountant, accompanies his brother Braxton, played by Jon Bernthal, to a country music bar. Using his analytical skills, Christian quickly deciphers the pattern of a line dance and joins in.
Director Gavin O’Connor explained that this scene serves multiple purposes as the film progresses into its second act. It shifts the focus away from the main plot by placing the brothers in a social setting to deepen their relationship and gives Christian a rare chance to connect with a woman on a personal level.
The moment also subverts expectations, as Braxton anticipates his brother will embarrass himself, but Christian surprises him.
O’Connor described how the scene dramatizes Christian’s mathematical mind: viewers see him observe the leg movements and rapidly calculate the steps.
Affleck participated in several rehearsals to master the dance moves. The production worked with choreographer Jennifer Hamilton, who initially presented numerous line dance variations before selecting the final routine.
The choreography was developed with professional dancers prior to involving Affleck. According to O’Connor, Ben’s goal was not to be the star of the dance floor but simply to perform the steps convincingly.
