Ben Affleck energizes the dance floor in a spirited scene from ‘The Accountant 2.’
His character, Christian Wolff—an autistic accountant—joins his brother Braxton, played by Jon Bernthal, at a country western bar. Christian quickly deciphers the rhythm of a line dance through calculation and confidently participates.
Director Gavin O’Connor explained that this scene serves multiple purposes as the film progresses into its second act. He noted that the intention was to momentarily shift focus away from the plot to explore the brothers’ relationship in a social setting and to showcase Christian’s first meaningful connection with a woman.
Initially, Braxton anticipates his brother might embarrass himself, but the outcome surprises him.
O’Connor highlighted how the scene emphasizes Christian’s analytical mind, illustrating how he quickly processes the dance steps and adapts with precision.
Affleck prepared extensively, attending several rehearsals to perfect the choreography. The director praised choreographer Jennifer Hamilton for presenting various line dance styles before they settled on the final routine.
The choreography was rehearsed with the dancers prior to Affleck’s involvement, allowing him to focus on embodying the character’s approach rather than executing flawless moves. As O’Connor put it, Christian did not need to excel—he simply had to participate authentically.
