On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Makena Brister and Shawn Arnold arrived at Santa Catalina Island, eager to immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere inspired by the 2008 comedy 'Step Brothers.'

The pair, both 22, disembarked from the ferry dressed in coordinated blue button-down shirts and argyle sweater vests, emulating the iconic promotional poster of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who portray middle-aged men reluctantly united as family after their parents’ remarriage.

The Catalina Wine Mixer, featured as the climactic event in the film where the feuding stepbrothers unite to salvage the party from a disastrous Billy Joel cover band, has since been brought to life as a real-world celebration.

“Ever since watching ‘Step Brothers,’ attending this event has been a dream,” Ms. Brister shared. “It’s our favorite movie, and we watch it all the time.”

The couple traveled from Granite Bay, California, to participate in the tenth annual Catalina Wine Mixer. The event was inspired by its fictional namesake and was officially launched in 2015 by the Catalina Island Company, which owns approximately 11 percent of the island and actively promotes tourism initiatives.
