Mikayla Raines, recognized for her passionate advocacy and rescue efforts for foxes and other animals, died on June 20 at her residence in Faribault, Minnesota. She was 30 years old.
Her husband, Ethan Frankcamp, revealed that she died by suicide, noting her ongoing battle with mental health challenges and the impact of online harassment.
Raised by a mother involved in wildlife rehabilitation, Raines launched Save a Fox Rescue in 2017, a sanctuary dedicated to saving foxes born in captivity. Her efforts gained widespread attention, amassing 2.4 million followers on YouTube.
Through her organization, she rehabilitated foxes and arranged adoptive placements. Many of these animals were rescued from fur farms, where they endured cruel conditions, confined to small wire cages with limited mobility.
In addition to animals rescued from fur farms, the sanctuary took in foxes surrendered by owners unable to care for them, as well as those seized for illegal possession.
According to an undated statement on the Save a Fox Rescue website, the organization has saved approximately 150 foxes from dire circumstances.
