Hamas announced on Friday its willingness to immediately begin negotiations regarding a new proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza with Israel.
Earlier this week, President Trump stated that Israel had accepted the conditions for a temporary truce and urged Hamas to reciprocate.
In a statement issued late Friday, Hamas confirmed it had submitted a response to mediators, describing it as positive.
It remains uncertain whether Hamas is seeking substantial modifications to the ceasefire plan or if outstanding issues could either facilitate or hinder a final agreement. Past attempts at similar deals have faltered at the last moment due to unresolved details.
The current proposal includes provisions for exchanging hostages for prisoners and initiating discussions aimed at achieving a permanent resolution to the nearly two-year conflict in Gaza.
Pressure has been mounting for both sides to reach an accord ahead of an upcoming visit to Washington by Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
