Los Angeles awoke to heightened tensions after hundreds of National Guard members were deployed to the city in response to demonstrations against recent immigration enforcement actions. Clashes erupted between protesters and federal officers, leading to burned vehicles, damaged barricades, and graffiti defacing government buildings in the downtown area.
While the protests remained largely confined to specific neighborhoods and were mostly peaceful, confrontations escalated for several hours before dusk. Law enforcement deployed tear gas and crowd control munitions as demonstrators retaliated with fireworks and stones directed at police vehicles. Among the incidents, several autonomous Waymo taxis were set ablaze, and a freeway was temporarily blocked. Despite the unrest, much of Los Angeles continued with daily routines under clear skies and mild temperatures.
