As Elon Musk emerged as a prominent supporter of Donald J. Trump last year—leading energetic rallies and contributing approximately $275 million to support the presidential campaign—his drug use intensified significantly, according to sources familiar with his behavior.
Musk's substance use extended far beyond casual experimentation. He reportedly consumed large amounts of ketamine, a potent anesthetic, to the extent that it impacted his bladder function, a side effect linked to prolonged use. Additionally, he used Ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms and carried a medication organizer containing around 20 pills daily, including stimulants resembling Adderall, as confirmed by photos and eyewitness accounts.
Although it remains uncertain whether Musk used drugs during his increased presence at the White House this year—where he was granted authority to reduce federal bureaucracy—he displayed unpredictable behavior. This included insulting cabinet officials, making unsettling hand gestures, and providing incoherent responses during a filmed interview.
Simultaneously, Musk's personal life became more complicated, with overlapping romantic relationships and legal disputes related to his expanding family, as revealed through documents and interviews.
On Wednesday evening, Musk announced his departure from government service, expressing frustration over the considerable amount of time politics had consumed, detracting from his business pursuits.
Requests for comment from Musk and his legal representatives regarding his drug use and private matters went unanswered this week. He has previously stated that ketamine was prescribed to him for depression, used approximately every two weeks, and has told his biographer that he dislikes using illegal drugs.
