Erik Prince, well-known for founding the private military firm Blackwater and his ties to former U.S. President Donald Trump, has been contracted by Haiti’s government to lead aggressive operations against violent gangs threatening the capital.
According to multiple security experts and officials familiar with the arrangement, Prince has agreed to combat armed groups responsible for widespread civilian killings and territorial control in Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas.
In recent months, the Haitian government has assembled a covert task force, including American contractors led by Prince, to deploy armed drones aimed at targeting gang members. These drone operations have been active since March, although authorities have yet to confirm any significant captures or neutralizations of key gang figures.
Sources indicate that Prince has been recruiting Haitian American military veterans to reinforce his team, with plans to deploy as many as 150 mercenaries to Haiti during the summer. Additionally, a substantial shipment of weapons was recently sent to support these efforts.
The Haitian government is currently awaiting further arms deliveries and additional personnel to intensify its crackdown on criminal networks.
While U.S. officials acknowledge awareness of Prince’s involvement, the precise details of the contract between Prince and the Haitian authorities, including financial terms, remain undisclosed.
