Iran carried out the execution of nuclear scientist Roozbeh Vadi on Wednesday, accusing him of espionage for Israel and involvement in the assassination of another Iranian scientist during the recent conflict between the two nations.
According to official judicial statements, Vadi was employed at one of Iran's most critical nuclear facilities, granting him access to sensitive classified information coveted by hostile foreign entities. He was sentenced to death by hanging after being convicted of spying and passing intelligence to Israel.
This execution comes in the aftermath of a 12-day confrontation in June, during which Israeli forces reportedly eliminated at least 30 high-ranking Iranian military commanders and 11 nuclear scientists.
Iranian authorities have publicly acknowledged that Israeli infiltration of their security and intelligence networks allowed Israel to disrupt key components of Iran’s military leadership and enabled drone strikes launched from Iranian territory. Following the conflict, Iranian officials have attributed several explosions and fires across the country to Israeli sabotage.
Although Iran and Israel have been engaged in a prolonged covert conflict, the precision of Israel’s intelligence and its ability to conduct operations within Iran has unsettled Iranian officials significantly.
Since the conclusion of hostilities, Iranian security forces have detained hundreds of individuals, including activists and dissidents, on charges related to espionage and threats to national security, according to local media and human rights organizations.
