Navigating Loyalties: When One Spouse Serves Trump and the Other Works for Elon Musk
Stephen and Katie Miller, closely tied to Donald Trump, were married at the Trump International Hotel in Washington and both served in his initial administration.

What happens when a married couple finds their professional allegiances divided between two powerful figures—the president and the world’s wealthiest entrepreneur?

This is the predicament facing Stephen and Katie Miller, staunch supporters of Donald Trump, who now appear positioned on opposing sides of the growing divide between the former president and Elon Musk.

Stephen Miller serves as a senior presidential aide, acting as deputy chief of staff for policy and advocating hardline immigration stances. Meanwhile, Katie Miller recently held a role as adviser and spokesperson for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative led by Elon Musk focused on cost reduction.

Last week, as Elon Musk distanced himself from Washington amid speculation surrounding a mysterious black eye and having received a symbolic gesture of goodwill from the president, the Millers attracted attention. Reports emerged that Katie Miller was departing DOGE to join Musk's team full-time, sparking questions about her ties to the administration and her husband.

Tensions escalated further when Musk and Trump engaged in a prolonged and public exchange of insults. Musk accused the president of failing to appreciate the $250 million he invested in his campaign, while Trump retaliated by threatening to terminate Musk’s numerous government contracts. Additional sharp remarks and accusations were exchanged during the confrontation.

By Thursday afternoon, the fallout appeared to reach the Millers personally, with reports indicating that Musk had unfollowed Stephen Miller and several other conservative figures on X, the social media platform Musk owns.
