Paramilitary forces in Sudan carried out drone strikes targeting an airport, a storage facility, and several civilian sites in the eastern Red Sea city of Port Sudan, triggering multiple explosions, a military spokesperson stated.

Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah, representing Sudan’s army, indicated that the assailants—identified as the Rapid Support Forces—employed explosive drones against the port city.

According to General Abdullah, anti-aircraft defenses successfully intercepted several drones, but the assault caused minor damage, including an explosion at an ammunition depot within Osman Digna Air Base. No injuries have been reported so far.

Osman Digna Air Base serves both military and civilian flights. The Civil Aviation Authority temporarily suspended air traffic following the attack and condemned the assault on the airport by rebel militias. By Sunday afternoon, Port Sudan International Airport announced the resumption of normal operations.

This marks the first attack on Port Sudan since the outbreak of Sudan’s civil war in 2023. The Rapid Support Forces have not issued any statement regarding the incident.
