Confusion and disorder erupted at a newly inaugurated aid distribution site in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, marking the first full day of humanitarian assistance deliveries under a controversial initiative backed by Israeli authorities.
Since March, an Israeli blockade has prevented food and fuel from entering Gaza, intensifying the desperation among Palestinians as aid groups halted their operations and food reserves rapidly diminished. Relief officials have repeatedly warned that widespread hunger is becoming an everyday crisis.
The urgent need for supplies was starkly visible at the distribution center, where verified footage captured hundreds gathering amid chaotic scenes. Crowds comprising women and young children surged toward the site’s center, where aid boxes had been assembled earlier, and disorder escalated as people climbed over surrounding sand barriers.
In one recorded moment, several short bursts of gunfire were heard in the distance, prompting the crowd to flee in panic and trample the metal fencing enclosing the area.
Security at these new aid points is managed by private American contractors, while Israeli military personnel are stationed nearby but remain outside the distribution site perimeter.
