In a scene reminiscent of a millennial influencer’s stunt, Anna Delvey—whose real name is Anna Sorokin—posed outside a TriBeCa subway station with two rabbits on leashes, an ankle monitor visible on her tanned leg.
Shortly after the photo shoot, some of the rabbits used in the session were discovered abandoned in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, triggering significant public backlash directed toward Sorokin. In a recent interview, she denied involvement in acquiring the rabbits and expressed being "horrified" upon learning they had been left behind.
"I felt ashamed and embarrassed to be associated with what happened," said Sorokin, 34.
Sorokin, who infamously impersonated a wealthy German heiress and served nearly four years in prison for defrauding New York’s elite, also spent 18 months in immigration detention for overstaying her visa. Recently, she has engaged in various photo shoots, publicity events, and even participated in a season of “Dancing With the Stars.”
On August 3, Sorokin shared images from the photo shoot taken on a New York City sidewalk. One of the rabbits featured, cradled in her arms, was a year-and-a-half-old Harlequin lop named Parker.
The following day, Terry Chao, a vegan influencer and blogger from Crown Heights, spotted Parker hiding in the bushes near Endale Arch in Prospect Park. Recognizing the rabbit from a Facebook group listing bunnies available for adoption, Chao helped rescue Parker along with two other rabbits that were part of the photo shoot.
Chao and others used a portable pen with wire gates to safely capture and care for the abandoned rabbits.
