In a Manhattan design studio overlooking West 38th Street, WNBA star Breanna Stewart placed a felt jockey cap atop her flowing brown hair on Saturday, stepping away from the basketball court and into the world of high fashion.
“I barely recognize myself right now,” Stewart remarked with a smile.
Across the room, her teammate Sabrina Ionescu tried on a cropped tuxedo jacket featuring dramatic tails.
“You look like an inspector—the character from ‘The Pink Panther,’” Ionescu teased Stewart, who responded by mimicking a monocle with her hand over her eye. Both players burst into laughter.
The athletes were collaborating with designer Sergio Hudson to perfect their ensembles for the Met Gala, which they attended on Monday alongside teammate Jonquel Jones and team owner Clara Wu Tsai. This event marked a glamorous stop on their celebration tour following the franchise’s inaugural WNBA championship victory in October.
Their coordinated black-and-white outfits were crafted by Hudson, a designer known for his commanding power suits who previously dressed prominent figures such as Michelle Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2021 Inauguration Day.
